Summit
Day to Day Report of the Summit
On September 6, 1997, the International Youth
Environmental Summit officially began with the arrival of students to Oregon
from the other 5 participating countries. Below you will find a day to
day description of events, as they happened, together with pictures from
the summit.

Day
One - All delegations arrive at
Portland International Airport, then travel to Western Oregon University
and Heritage Hall

Day
Two - Beach cleanup at Beverley
Beach State Park, Hatfield Marine Science Center, Oregon Coast Aquarium,
International Banquet

Day
Three - Team building activities, newspaper interviews, staff
inservice and training on the Legislative Process, Opening Night Ceremony

Day
Four - Travel to State Capitol in Salem, Opening of General
Assembly in the Senate Chamber of the State Capitol, Student Delegations
present Articles of Rights and Responsibilities and Research, Multinational
Committee Workshops in Hearing Rooms

Day
Five - Work in multinational committees, river boat cruise atPortland,
dinner at Portland World Trade Center, film at Omnimax theater.

Six - Publication of "Declaration of Environmental Rights
and Responsibilities, Students prepare displays to visually demonstarte
their solutions

Day
Seven - Completion of displays and solutions, Final General
Assembly, Closing Cermony Banquet, Closing Night Ceremony

Eight - Checking out of Heritage Hall, Reforestation and Woods
Tour, Shopping spree, Arrival at Camp Cascade

Days
Nine and Ten - Last day of the Summit, Travel to Opal Creek
Old Growth Forest, last meeting in evening, delegates leave Oregon following
day
