METHOD:
1) Increase use of natural resources such as wind, solar, and

to supply industry with energy so they can produce consumer goods in

sustainable manner.
2) Governments should show support through tax breaks for the
industries
that produce environmentally sustainable goods.
3) Set and work towards regulation goals which call for the decrease
in the
amount of harmful chemicals and radioactivity released into our
environment.
EVALUATION:
Teams of experts, scientists, government officials, industry officials,
and
community members should monitor movement towards development and use
of
renewable energy resources, support for sustainable resource production,
and reduction of harmful chemicals and radioactive byproducts.
Reports
shall be given to the governments and nations of the world to ensure
that
progress towards goals remains on target.
OBJECTIVE #2:
Require communities and industries to purify and conserve water as well
as
chemical runoff.
METHOD:
1) Develop, establish, and enhance water purification and recycling
systems
in all communities.
2) Monitor water quality of all communities on a continual basis.
3) Governments shall provide incentives to individuals, businesses and
industry to use and produce products which have low impact on water
quality.
4) Educate public on effects of overuse of water and the impact of
chemically contaminated water supplies on the environment and human
health.
5. Promote environmentally aware consumerism.
EVALUATION:
Teams of experts, scientists, government officials, industry officials,
and
community members should monitor water quality and use within
communities
on a continual basis. Governments shall monitor industrial releases
of
chemicals into water bodies and take appropriate actions based
upon the
results of the monitoring. Reports shall be made public
to all
constituents.
RIGHT #2
ARTICLE:
We have the right to live with a supply of products and energy necessary
for life, and not to be forced to use any more than that.
OBJECTIVE:
To use energy and products safely, wisely, and without excess.
METHOD:
1) Governments world wide, need to set regulations and limitations
regarding the use of non recyclable and non renewable resources and
energy.
Such regulations and limitations must reflect balance and equality
among
the nations and people of the world.
2) Create media campaigns to promote sustainable living and the reduction
of excessive consumption of resources and goods.
EVALUATION:
Governments, industries, communities and individuals must monitor each
other for compliance in terms of resource and energy use.
RIGHT #3
ARTICLE:
We have the right to request governments to regulate industry by setting
standards for a clean and safe environment and for the conservation
of
resources and energy.
OBJECTIVE:
Industries shall lead the way towards a clean and safe environment and
the
conservation of resources and energy.
METHOD:
1) Government shall increase restrictions on the amount of resources
and
energy an industry uses if there are no restrictions or if restrictions
do
not meet sustainable levels.
2) Governments shall provide incentives to industries and communities
to
reduce the consumption of energy and resources. Governments and
communities shall have the ability to fine industries that do not meet
a
sustainable production level.
EVALUATION:
Industries must submit an annual report regarding the amount of natural
resources and energy used as well as how they have increased
environmental
awareness and responsibility in their corporations.
RIGHT #4
ARTICLE:
We have the right to request governments to inform us about the current
condition of environmental pollution, including water and air pollution,
and about the state of consumption of resources and energy.
OBJECTIVE:
To make information about current environmental problems available to
the
public.
METHOD:
1) Industries, businesses and communities should create
updated internet
websites which outline their environmental status, impact, and resolutions.
2) Industries, communities and governments must provide the public with
timely up-to-date information on local environmental problems, solutions
through the use of the media (newspapers, radio news, television news,
internet). In addition, avenues of public involvement must be
highlighted.
EVALUATION:
Random surveys shall be taken periodically to determine the awareness
level
of the public on current local environmental issues.
RIGHT #5
ARTICLE:
We have the right to encourage industry to develop products which promote
the protection of the environment and the sustainable use of resources
and energy.
OBJECTIVE:
Industries should work to promote more environmentally safe and sustainable
products.
METHOD:
1) Industries should spend at least 20% of their profits in the area
of
research, development and implementation of more sustainable
methods of
production.
2) Products that are not environmentally safe or not produced in a
sustainable manner should include warning labels stating the effects
of the
product or the production of the product on the environment.
3) Consumers must exercise their obligation to purchase sustainable products.
4) Governments can encourage the development of sustainable production
through tax incentives.
5) Governments should promote the development and use of renewable energy
resources for industries that are less harmful to the environment such
as
wind, solar, and tidal power.
EVALUATION:
Products available to the consumer shall be monitored for availability
of
environmental impact information.
Records of product consumption which are produced in a sustainable
manner
shall be monitored.
Renewable resources should make up proportionally more of the resource
base
with each passing year.
RIGHT #6
ARTICLE:
We have the right to request governments and industries to work together
to
set up international cooperation systems to solve global environmental
problems and encourage wise use of resources and energy across the
borders.
OBJECTIVE:
To promote collaboration among nations and multinational corporations
in
efforts to maintain sustainability.
METHODS:
1) The United Nations shall provide the avenue for dialogue among nations
regarding global environmental issues.
2) The United Nations shall establish guidelines for multinational
corporations which promote working in harmony with the environment
of the
nations in which they are located along with sustainable methods of
resource use.
EVALUATION:
Monitoring by the UN of progress of nations and multinational corporations
to cooperate in efforts to support sustainable use of resources.
RESPONSIBILITY #1
ARTICLE:
We have the responsibility to leave the earth with abundant resources
and
energy, free of harmful chemical substances and radioactivity, for
the next
generations.
OBJECTIVE:
To encourage communities and industries to live and operate in a more
sustainable fashion.
METHOD:
1) Governments, industries, and educational institutions shall work
together to promote environmental education which increases a sense
of
awareness and responsibility of the environment and the use of resources.
2) The media (TV, radio, newspapers, and the internet) shall promote
sustainable lifestyles and keep populations informed about the status
of
the environment and earth's resources.
EVALUATION:
An environmental education task force shall monitor the quality and
quality
of information provided to communities.
RESPONSIBILITY #2
ARTICLE:
We have the responsibility to educate ourselves about the current condition
of environmental pollution, the current use of resources and energy,
and
the balance of desirable and sustainable use of resources and energy.
OBJECTIVE #1:
To have the public keep themselves continually up-to-date on issues
regarding the environment through thorough media coverage.
METHOD:
1) The public shall request thorough local, national and international
news
on the environment from all communication sources (TV, radio, newspaper,
internet).
2) Communication industries shall provide weekly updates on local, national
or international environmental problems, as well as outline opportunities
for local involvement.
3) Actions taken by communities to remedy environmental problems should
have the support of the commercial, industrial, and governmental sectors
as
well as media coverage, in order to promote active citizen involvement
in
the environment.
EVALUATION:
The effectiveness shall be monitored by the consistency and quality
of
media coverage and public communications as well as measuring the number
of
citizens who have the incentive to become involved.
OBJECTIVE #2:

METHODS:
Designate specific environmental curriculum within schools and

environmental issues. Level of support for such educational programs
should be evident from local governments, organizations, industries
and
businesses.
RESPONSIBILITY #3
ARTICLE:
We are obliged to alter our lifestyle to refrain from polluting the
environment by consuming more resources and energy than we need, and
we
have the responsibility to participate actively in recycling and other
environmental conservation activities.
OBJECTIVE:
To protect the environment and natural resources by reducing consumption
and providing programs that make recycling more widely available.
METHOD:
1) Governments shall create programs that increase the availability
of
recycling in the community.
2) These programs should provide incentives for recycling including
roadside recycling, recycling areas within the cities and special recycling
activity days.
3) Community groups should be formed that are in charge of implementing
and
sustaining these programs.
4) Governments and industries should promote and fund research in new
technologies involving recycling materials and utilizing recycled materials
in the production of goods.
EVALUATION:
Monthly and annual progress reports from the committees should be submitted
to the government, waste disposal department, and community.
A decrease in the amount of waste collected should be evident
as well as
an increase in the amount of material recycled and reused.
RESPONSIBILITY #4
ARTICLE:
Governments, municipalities, and industries have the responsibility
to
enforce effective measures regarding the conservation and recycling
of
natural resources.
OBJECTIVE:
To encourage the conservation of the earth's resources at all levels.
METHOD :
1) Governments shall protect areas which are at risk environmentally
from
use of resources.
2) The public should support companies who have effective recycling
programs and environmental promotion programs by buying their products
over
those produced by non-environmentally sensitive companies.
3) Laws should be passed which mandate recycling programs within
governments, organizations, corporations, businesses, and individual
homes.
EVALUATION:
Natural Resource Conservation Committees shall be formed within
communities which establish the minimum requirements for conservation
of
resources, based on supply and demand within that area.
Natural Resource Committees shall monitor resource bases and compare
to
rates of consumption vs. rates of recycling and provide reports to
governments and communities.
RESPONSIBILITY #5
ARTICLE:
Government and industries have the responsibility to develop energy
saving
products, such as automobiles, which are less harmful to the environment,
and promote the effective use of renewable energy resources, such as
solar
and wind power.
OBJECTIVE:
To promote alternative energy resources and high energy efficient products.
METHOD:
1) Governments should provide incentives to industry to develop
alternative energy resources as well as develop and produce products
that
are more energy efficient.
2) Industries should take the initiative and produce more environmentally
sound solutions to the production of goods, such as electric cars and
hypercars versus the standard gas-engine automobile.
3) The public should demand, by way of their consumer power, products
which are created via alternative energy resources and are highly energy
efficient.
4) International symposiums which discuss cutting edge technology in
the
area of energy efficiency and alternative energy resources shall be
held
annually in order to disseminate new groundbreaking methodologies.
EVALUATION:
Within the next few years the number of environmentally friendly
products such as the electric car should increase and the consumption
of
fossil fuels like oil and coal should decrease.
